Trellis

How Trellis lays out your library

Where the library sits, and where a recording ends up inside it.

A library Trellis created for you is a folder called Trellis Music Library with four folders inside it.

FolderWhat it holds
LibraryEverything that is in your collection
DownloadWhere new material lands before you have looked at it
BacklogShows you have not decided about yet
WorkshopShows that need work before they belong in the library

A library you already had is the folder you picked during setup, and the three working folders are whichever ones you pointed Trellis at.

Where a recording lands

A recording added to the library is filed under the artist, one folder per recording, at something like Grateful Dead/Grateful Dead - 1977-05-08 - Barton Hall - Ithaca, NY (SBD).

The name is built from the metadata, with the source in parentheses at the end when there is one.

Inside a recording folder

Audio sits flat in the folder root, even when the show arrived as CD1 and CD2 subfolders, renamed to its track number and title (01 - Morning Dew.flac), numbered continuously across the sets.

Everything else stays as it came: the info file, the checksum lists and the artwork, under their original names and in any subfolders they arrived in.

Folders Trellis keeps for itself

Photos you add to a musician, a venue or an event go under _musicians, _venues and _events at the top of the library. An artist’s photos sit in an _images folder beside that artist’s recordings. A scan steps over anything whose name starts with an underscore.

The folder name follows the metadata

Correct a date or a venue and Trellis renames the folder to match.

Moving a recording out

Sending a recording to Workshop or Backlog moves the folder there and marks the recording Out of Library.
