Trellis

Adding your first recording

From a folder of files to a recording in your library.

A show arrives as a folder of audio files, a text file the taper wrote, and a checksum list.

Point it at a folder

Click Add Recordings in the sidebar. The page opens on your Download folder and lists what is in it. Click a row to go into it, or press Browse… to pick another folder.

Once you are in the folder that holds your shows, press Review This Folder. Trellis finds the shows underneath it, including shows split into sets, whether the set number is in a subfolder name (CD1, Disc 2) or at the front of the filenames (D01T01).

Trellis reads FLAC, MP3 and WAV.

Work through the queue

Each show becomes a row with a Sound Quality reading of High, Medium or Low taken from the audio, a Metadata reading on the same three words, and a line of facts about the audio. A possible duplicate, a failed checksum or an empty folder appears as a concern.

Every row offers Ingest, which files it with the metadata shown, Review, which opens the full page so you can correct things first, and Move, which sends it to Backlog or Workshop. One button at the top runs the whole queue.

The bar across the top sets whether each source folder is moved into the library or copied, and whether the per-track audio analysis runs during the ingest or is left for later.

What gets read

Tags are read from FLAC files. A text file in the folder supplies the artist, the date, the venue, city, state and country, the source and lineage, and the track list. Where both have an answer, the tags win.

Checksums are verified during the scan and again against the filed copy when you confirm.

After it is added

The recording gets a page of its own, and the artist, venue and performance become records you can browse. Correct something later and Trellis follows, including the folder name on disk.
