Trellis

Personnel and lineups

Who played on the night, and how Trellis works it out.

Members and guests

A recording page carries two rows, Members and Guests. Members are the band that night. Guests are people who played without being in the act. Both are lists you add names to and remove names from, and every name links to that person’s page.

Where a lineup comes from

Most shows inherit it. Trellis reads the act’s membership stints, keeps whoever was in the band on that date, and adds whatever guests you listed.

Some shows end up with a lineup of their own. Take an inherited member off one night and Trellis copies the rest of the lineup onto that show first, then drops the person you removed. The act’s roster stops affecting that one night from then on.

A lineup belongs to the show, so every recording of that night reads the same.

Stint dates

Dates can be as vague as you know. A year on its own is a valid stint boundary. Mickey Hart was in the Grateful Dead twice, and two stints say so. If a show’s own date is unknown, everyone on the roster is included.

Researching a roster

An artist’s page can research the act’s lineup and show what it found as rows with dates, instruments and a source link. Each row has an Add to roster button, which puts that person on the roster with those dates. A row that arrived without a source cannot be added.
