The data model
Artist, Musician, Performance, Recording, and the dimensions around them.
Artist
The act that took the stage. The Grateful Dead is an Artist. Acts are listed under Artists in the sidebar.
Musician
An individual person. Jerry Garcia is a Musician. People are listed under Musicians, and each one has a page showing the acts they are a member of, the shows those acts played, and any nights they sat in with somebody else.
Members are optional.
Membership
What links a Musician to an Artist, as a stint: a tenure that can carry a start date and an end date. Several stints per person are allowed. A stint with no dates means the person was always in the act.
On a show, each name is listed as a Member or a Guest. See Personnel and lineups.
Performance and Recording
A Performance is the show. One act, one date, one place. You edit it from a recording.
A Recording is one capture of that show. A soundboard and an audience tape of the same night are two Recordings of one Performance. Several per show is ordinary.
A Track is one audio file inside a Recording. A track can carry a set
label, Set 1 or Encore or CD 2, worked out from the folder and filenames
when the show is scanned. See Multi-disc shows.
Venue, Event, Genre
Venue is the building. It has its own page and its own list of shows.
Event is the festival or tour run a show belonged to. It has its own page, its own dates and location, and shows inside it can override that location with their own.
Genre belongs to the Artist, one per act, and carries a color used on cards and rows across the app. See Genres.
