Installing Trellis
Download the app, open it, and point it at a library.
Trellis is a macOS app and needs macOS 11 or later. Download the beta from the home page, drag it to Applications, and open it.
First run
Trellis asks what to call you. That becomes your sign-in name, and you can change it later in Settings.
Use a library you already have
Press Choose My Library Folder… and pick the folder your recordings are in. That folder becomes your library.
Any recording you add from now on is filed as
Artist / Artist - Date - Venue - Location. Trellis may also rename a
recording’s folder when its details change.
Once the library folder is picked, three more pickers appear: Downloads, Backlog and Workshop. They are optional, so skip any you do not keep.
Use This Library finishes setup.
Start a new library
Press Choose Location… and pick a folder. Trellis creates a folder called Trellis Music Library inside it, with four folders of its own:
| Folder | What goes in it |
|---|---|
Library | Recordings that are in your collection |
Download | Where new material lands before you look at it |
Backlog | Shows you have not decided about |
Workshop | Shows that need work before they belong in the library |
An external drive or a network volume works. Pick somewhere with room.
What else gets written
The database and the transcode cache live in
~/Library/Application Support/Trellis Music Library.
When you add a recording, Trellis moves that source folder into the library by default. To copy it instead, change that in Settings under Adding recordings.
Next
Add your first recording, or read about how the library is laid out.
